Publicis

Anya Hamman is an art director at a marketing agency called Publicis Hawkeye. Publicis works with many different clients which provide designers with a new project to handle each day. Hamman's team focuses on the email aspect of the designs. Many of her clients include Citi, Red Lobster, Canada Post, and Walmart.

Working in a big company such as Publicis allows workers to easily transfer to a specific sector in that company, in other words, lots of opportunities with different clients arise. One would have to constantly be on their feet, handling a lot of ideas, and overall managing one's time. What is interesting about her work is that she has to deal with a variety of data, as well as thinking about the audience that the brand is speaking too. When marketing certain products for clients, she would have to think about their target audience and appeal to them.

Building an Online Portfolio

Hamman has presented incredible tips on how to market one's self on the internet along with an appealing portfolio:
  • Be picky!
I found this an interesting tip to consider when putting our your portfolio online. It also makes sense as when being asked about it in an interview, it would help to be proud of that specific work since you would know the process from start to finish. Its like taking that interviewer for a ride and experiencing the different steps and choices you have made to make an ultimately great piece you are proud of.
  • How are you marketing yourself?
Another outstanding tip to consider when making an online profile of yourself. Everyone needs to put this into consideration especially when looking for a specific job. If a company is looking for someone with a specific skill set and you have work to show for that, why not show it off!
  • Showing different mediums of work
Being able to show different skill sets in one's portfolio is definitely one I considered when creating my own portfolio. Showing a variety of works show the things you are capable of.

Finishing Thoughts

Overall, this presentation was quite informative for me, as I was interested in the particular work she does! As someone who loves to draw and really be on the creative side of marketing, I found her presentation to be very useful. What is also interesting is giving insight of her different works. I especially found her process to final to be very interesting to put onto a portfolio. As a previous professor of mine really loves process work, and seeing this come up again and how it affects one's portfolio is very telling. As it really lets the viewer know what were the designer's thoughts when choosing specific colours or choosing different placements on a page.
Another aspect that I took to heart in her presentation is to really think about your audience when working in a marketing agency with a client. Needing to adapting to their needs and being able to know who their targeted audience is. As when designing, the product needs to appeal to their audience otherwise the whole design just falls through. As someone who would like to work in a place where Hamman's working, this presentation kept me thinking about marketing agencies and what they are looking for. As well as giving an incredible insight on how it is like working in a big company as to working as a in-house designer.
