Sabaa Quao is a career entrepreneur and has his own personal business he created called the Newsrooms. His marketing and consulting portfolio consists of designs for the NBA teams, different drinks, such as Coca Cola, Corona and different banks, like the RBC Royal Bank. It is interesting how expanded his works are and eventually building up his own marketing business.

He has mentioned that despite the different career paths we choose, it will never stay linear. He first started out his business career named XCORPORATION and continued working as the president and creative director for 10 years, until a setback came along in which he had to lay off a couple of his workers. Not all business can stay afloat for long without knowing the threats along the way. As advice he has mentioned to always be ready for instances that may occur and be prepared for them. What is interesting about his presentation is making us think about the direct roots of how our passions came to be.

Epistemology

This section of the presentation was interesting especially looking back on the context of one's self and learning about where our values come from. It really made me think about the decisions I made throughout my life and why I made those decisions. It is all based on the impactful situations and teachings from family, friends and teachers. Everyone has different perspectives and different choices to situations and sometimes we take those values, learn from them and use them in our own decision making.

I found this part of the presentation quite interesting, as we are all unique and come from different places and because of that we handle challenges differently from each other. Our values truly dictate who we are as a person, and they build up from our past, previous teachings, and our interests.

Origin Stories

Another section in his presentation is going back and learning about our origin stories. It really stuck with me and truly made me think back on how my values came to be and where my passions came from. It made me think about the direct impact of our interests and how it ultimately creates our career path. I sincerely agree with what he said in his presentation. My interests and passion really drove me into what career I wanted and thus affected what studies I would take. In the end, it was never linear, there were different programs and different colleges I could go too, but because of my interests, it drove me to study at Sheridan to study the arts. Ultimately, I went from the arts to finally developing designs on the web. I could've taken a different path, but because of my passion, it lead me down a different road.

Our passion really dictates who we are as a person and it truly does impact our decisions. Because of my interests of animation and movies, I always wanted to try working in animation or at least being part of creating a wonderful project. Thus, my passion and interest steered me into the arts. Everything in life sticks with us, all from the different situations we overcome and the decisions we made based on our original teachings and what we value.

Finishing Thoughts

This week's presentation was quite interesting and really gave thought to who we are as a person and why our passions can lay out our career path. Why would someone want to work in a place they don't like? One wouldn't be working to their full potential and they would be wasting their time and others as well. In the end, we all want to wake up everyday working at a place we are passionate about and show our skills in a place where we can succeed at. All of these decisions would be based on our passion and because of our interests and values we have a set path we each take.

Quao talks about designs and he has shown a graph showcasing how nowadays, it is good to design for mobile instead of for print and desktop because of the low use of those platforms. I found the desktop graph outcome to be quite interesting as there are people who own a computer in their household and use it to go on websites, make an order, or to search for something, etc. But, the same can be said for the mobile, as it is certainly like a mini-computer in your hand. I was definitely surprised by how low it is compared to the other platforms. So, based on the table he has shown us, it is best to design for mobile as many people spend most of their time on that specific device, however when designing, for example an app, it needs to be the best, otherwise users can just pass by it quickly. This is where our creativity kicks in, as it is our one resource that is constantly evolving and developing and our career really depends on how we manage that resource.

Another part of the presentation that stuck with me is being able to stay afloat and being prepared for challenges that may come our way. One thing changes to another, and nothing really stays the same. However, to be prepared for change, you need to pay attention to certain details/changes and catch it before you get blind-sided by the sudden change when it comes. It is good to sustain oneself and be prepared for those challenges.

Lastly, Quao's origin story talk was very impactful to me, as I was always afraid to share my passions. It was one that really helped me escape reality and enjoy what I really like and share that passion with close-friends and family. But, it did ultimately decide where I would study at after high school and so far, I felt happy and learned many things that I can't wait to take into a full working career. Despite, how embarrassing how passionate a person can be, it definitely creates a certain drive to wanting to succeed in that certain platform.
